An Apple wall charging adapter may serve its purpose in the short term, but when you factor in their rather high price point, there are so many advantages that can be found when choosing a third-party fast charging wall adapter alternative for your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.
These two powerful wall chargers from Novoo are adapters that exceed what Apple can offer, all at a much more wallet-friendly price. In this review, I’ll go through why one of these is better than Apple’s own.
Novoo RG120 3-Port 120W USB Wall Charger
The Novoo RG120 Charger offers the ability to provide 120 Watts in a form factor that’s just a fraction of its Apple equivalent size. The exterior is covered in a sleek black matte colour scheme, with the business end covered in a grey/silver colour that gives a contrast to its three USB charging ports.
There are two USB-C ports and one USB-A charging port on this 120W adapter. During single charging, you can charge from either of its two USB-C ports at a max charging output of 100W. Its slower USB-A port will charge at a max rate of 22.5W.
Two device charging will split the USB-C power output to 60W each, or 100W from the top USB-C port and 20W from the USB-A port. Making it ideal for charging a MacBook at full speed whilst charging an iPhone or iPad from the USB-A port pretty well.
Lastly, charging from all three ports at once will output 100W from the top USB-C port and 20W each from the second USB-C and USB-A ports. So bottom line, the top USB-C port will have the most power-hungry devices covered with maximum charge, whilst the remaining will easily charge smaller devices like iPhones, AirPods, iPads and many other devices without breaking too much of a sweat.
For added value, the 120W Wall Charger from Novoo comes bundled with two lengths of braided charging USB-C to USB-C cables that support up to 100W of charging. The first is 1m, and the second is 1.5m in length. Its shorter length is plenty for closer charging whilst also reaching a little further for laptops charging from a lower charging socket location.
If all this isn’t swaying you already, then there’s the price. Retailing currently for £31.99 with discounts and vouchers on their Amazon store, there is a lot to like about this wall charger from Novoo. Apple’s 140W adapter sells for £99, and 96W for £79, so this is a considerable saving for an adapter that’s smaller, has more USB charging ports, is easier to pack for travel, is lighter, and depending on your preference of power, it can offer more charging power too. So overall, what is there not to like, really, other than it’s not white.
Novoo RG68 3-Port 67W USB Wall Charger
The Novoo RG68 Charger offers 67 watts of max charging from its rather pint-sized form factor that takes up half the size of Apple’s 67W or now 70W charger.
Like the RG120, the RG68 also comes with the same pair of 1m and 1.5m long USB-C charging cables that support up to 100W of charging power.
When it comes to charging, the little RG68 isn’t a slouch either. Its two USB-C ports charge at a max of 67W, whilst the single USB-A port charges at a max of 22.5W. This is perfect for MacBooks, MacBook Airs, and even for Apple-chipped MacBook Pros at a slightly slower rate.
Charging two devices from its two USB-C ports will output at 45W and 20W, with 45W out of the top USB-C and 18W out of the bottom USB-A port. Three-port charging lowers the top USB-C port to 40W, and both its second USB-C and USB-A ports will charge at 10W each. For a tiny-sized adapter, it’s going to power your devices fairly well, whilst offering a powerful single-port experience for MacBook/Laptop use that in some cases is better than Apple’s own.
The RG68 retails currently for £20.99 with sale discounts and vouchers from their Amazon Store, which I think is a steal for such a small adapter that delivers this amount of power and charging options.
